The Mouse, the Joystick, and other pointing devices: Goodbye
Posted by tetris11 at July 29, 2009 13:11:41

The Epoch helmet, a brainwave though device, allows gamers to use their minds as a joystick. It requires no implants, and can simply be worn by a user who can then tailor their mind to give the right input.

Programs such as Joy2Key which maps joystick movements to mouse movements would then be used to control a mouse pointer with this helmet. Mouse cursor speed would only be limited by your mind input (and probably the maximum input the helmet allows) allowing you to open and close applications literally at the speed of thought.

Everything described in the last two paragraphs will be available to the public by this christmas thanks to the Epoc helmet.

Ten years from now.... There wont be any need for a mouse pointer; your mind will simply give the correct input to open and close applications by itself instead of through a pointing device.

There might not even be any screen to look at, but this may be unlikely since it would mean that the helmet was now broadcasting into your mind which would leave it open to mind hacks.

Keyboards? Well you never know when you need an emergency device.
